Description: The present case relates the effects of the judgment issued by the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica of March 15, 2000, by which Executive Decree No. 24029-S was declared unconstitutional, which regulated the In Vitro Fertilization technique in the country. This sentence implied that the in vitro fertilization in Costa Rica was prohibited, and in particular, it generated that some of the victims of the present case should interrupt the medical treatment they had initiated, and that others were forced to travel to other countries to gain access to in vitro fertilization.
El presente caso se relaciona los efectos de la sentencia emitida por la Sala Constitucional de la Corte Suprema de Costa Rica de 15 de marzo de 2000, mediante la cual se declaró inconstitucional el Decreto Ejecutivo No. 24029-S, en el cual se regulaba la técnica de Fecundación In Vitro (FIV) en el país. Esta sentencia implicó que se prohibiera la FIV en Costa Rica, y en particular, generó que algunas de las víctimas del presente caso debieran interrumpir el tratamiento médico que habían iniciado, y que otras se vieron obligadas a viajar a otros países para poder acceder a la FIV.
