Description:	Lippia graveolens is a Mexican aromatic plant that, to date, has been used by the food industry, as well as in marginalized areas, as home remedies which combat multiple gastrointestinal and respiratory problems. This study provides evidence of the antimicrobial capacity of essential oil extracted from the dry leaves of this species on three microorganisms that cause foodborne illnesses: (FAD) Salmonella sp., E. coli and Enteroccus. Salmonella was found to be more sensitive to the essential oil, and Enteroccocus the most resistant. These data add value to the commercialization of the plant by increasing the potential of obtaining products with high added value. Additionally, it provides a viable opportunity for improving the living conditions of the populations where it is collected in the wild, which are typically areas of high marginalization. Lippia graveolens es una planta aromática mexicana que hasta ahora se ha utilizando para la industria gastronómica y en zonas marginadas como remedios caseros para combatir múltiples problemas gastrointestinales y respiratorios. En el presente estudio se proporciona evidencia de la capacidad antimicrobiana del aceite esencial extraído de hojas secas de esta especie sobre tres microorganismos causantes de enfermedades de transmisión alimentaria (ETA) Salmonella sp., E. coli y Enteroccus. Se encontró que Salmonella es más sensible al aceite esencial y Enteroccocus la más resistente. Estos datos aportan valor a la comercialización y promueven la especie con potencial para la obtención de productos de alto valor agregado, además de representar una opción para mejorar las condiciones de vida de las poblaciones donde se colecta de manera silvestre y que pertenecen a zonas de alta marginación.
