Description:	En este artículo se aborda el tema de la muerte voluntaria en las áreas rurales de las plantaciones de henequén vinculado con una enfermedad que se relaciona directamente con la pobreza: la pelagra. El suicidio y la pelagra aparecieron en Yucatán durante el periodo histórico conocido como porfiriato (1877-1910), un tiempo de gran prosperidad económica en esa región de México. Lo que interesa en este trabajo es analizar la forma en que el suicidio de los “pelagrosos” fue presentado en la prensa decimonónica meridana y también la percepción que subyace en los documentos judiciales de la época. Este tipo de sucesos ocurría en las áreas rurales. Suicide and Pelagrosos. The voluntary death in the haciendas of Yucatán during the Porfiriato In this article, we tackle the voluntary death of the laborers of the henquen plantation that was directly vinculated with Pellagra disease (a disease linked to people living in extreme poberty). The suicide rate and the Pellagra, appeared in the State of Yucatan, Mexico, during a historical age inMexico, known as “The Porfiriato” (1877-1910), a prosperous period of time in the history of Mexico. Similarly, in this work we attempt to analize how the suicide ofthe “pelagrosos” was seen by the Media in the State of Yucatan and what the Judicial records from that time revealed.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.31836/lh.16.4844
