Abstract: This thesis presents the design and the simulation of the operational characteristics of two emulators, one with a power rating of 1.5 [MW] and another one with a power rating of 1.5 [kW]; both emulators reproduce the voltage and current output waveforms of a wind turbine based on a doubly fed induction generator of 1.5 [MW]. The wind turbine response is obtained by means of solving the mathematical models of the mechanical and electrical components of the turbine subjected to various wind speed proles represented by step and ramp functions, as well as wind speed proles generated from the Van der Hovens model; this allows to perform simulations under conditions similar to the ones presented in practice. Detailed simulation results are presented for several modes of operation for this type of machine, namely, a speed below the synchronous one (subsynchronous mode), a speed above the synchronous one (supersynchronous mode), as well as the cases of operation with unity power factor, or power factor below of the unit. Starting from the parameters of a generator and an aerodynamic model of a turbine, the other elements that form the wind turbine are calculated, such as the length of the blades, the Back-to-Back converter and the LCL lter, to produce the rated power of the generator.
